Class Descriptions for HJDA Series of Shows
Please enter consistent levels
Example:Intermediate Over Fences with Intermediate on the Flat not Advanced Over Fences and Intermediate On the Flat
Keep in mind a Junior rider may enter an Intermediate class since Junior indicates the age of the rider & Intermediate is the skill of the rider. Adult, Short-Stirrup, and Junior are age based divisions. Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner are skill based divisions
Basically the idea is if you're able to ride in an advanced jumping class, then your skill in the flat classes should also be advanced. But you could be an adult that just started riding and could enter both adult and beginner classes.
In Hunter Classes, the Horse will be judged on manners, jumping style and way of moving.
Extreme speeds will be penalized. Three refusals in any over fences class constitutes disqualification.
In Equitation classes, the Rider will be judged on correct position, use of aids, etc.
Order of Go: All over fences classes will be run according to the order of go in the Show Program
(received on the day of the show). Be prepared to ride!
Tack: USEF rules apply to all classes.
Standing Martingales optional in Over Fences classes but prohibited in On the Flat classes.
Running Martingales, Boots, Wraps, and Bandages are Prohibited!
Warm up over fences: Judged class.
Warm Up O/F Course of 8 Fences Height 2' 3" to 2' 6'
Warm Up O/F Low Course of cross rails & low 18" verticals. For the beginner/ss rider.
Medal Class : Judged Equitation Class
Due to interest expressed by several trainers and riders we are now offering both a Medal High and a Medal Low class
The Medal High class will consist of the primarily the same jump heights in the Junior Over Fences class (up to 2' 6")
The Medal Low class will consist of low verticals (18") and cross-rails.
Course of 6 fences
Riders will ride the course twice.
The first course will be posted the morning of the show.
The judge will then make up a 2nd course "on the spot" which will be announced twice.
The Top FOUR Riders from the 1st course "elimination round" will be called back into the ring according to reverse placing order i.e. the rider that came in last will be called back in to ride first, the rider who came in 4th will be called back in next and so on
until the first place rider is called back in last.
The combined points of both rides will determine the placings of the class.
Those riders winning a 1st or 2nd place will qualify for the Year End Medal Ride-off in September.
The First Place rider of the class is not eligible to compete in the Medal Class for the rest of the season
until the Year End Medal Ride Off in September. A minimum of 4 riders must be entered in the class at each
show. If there are not 4 riders entered, the class will not be held.
